#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. In Moscow, at the Engineering Glory Hall of the Union of Scientific and Engineering Public Associations, a ceremony was held to honor the winners of the Engineer of the Year 2024 contest. Among the elite of the Russian engineering community, there are ten representatives from Norilsk, whose names will be included in the Register of the Best.

The all-Russian contest Engineer of the Year aims to promote best practices and achievements of engineering professionals excelling in their fields. In 2024, over 70 000 participants from 60 regions of Russia took part in the preliminary stage. More than a thousand candidates advanced to the finals.

Winners are traditionally selected in two categories: Young Engineering Talent for specialists under 30 years old and Professional Engineers for those with at least five years of experience. An expert jury, comprised of Russian scientists, design engineers, and specialists from various fields, evaluates the relevance of the participants’ work, the effectiveness of their proposed solutions, and the potential for replication.

Denis Arbuzov, the chief engineer of the Copper plant, received the honorary title of Professional Engineer of Russia for his key role in the project to neutralize sulfuric acid at the Nadezhda metallurgical plant facilities. His developments aimed at improving existing technologies in Nornickel’s enrichment and metallurgy processes resulted in an economic benefit of over 4 billion rubles.

Olga Bolshakova, head of the engineering support laboratory at the Copper plant’s engineering support center, was recognized for her contributions to Russian science. She is a co-author of several scientific and technical developments focused on improving product quality, reducing metal losses, and optimizing costs in the main processing stages, as well as integrating materials from third-party organizations into the technological process of the metallurgical shop.

Another notable employee is Sergey Tyulenev, head of the copper electrolysis shop, who successfully balances his work with scientific activities, having authored over ten rationalization proposals and more than a hundred production initiatives.

Ruzel Aglamov, chief manager of the reconstruction directorate of the Talnah concentrating plant at the Polar Branch, has published 17 scientific papers. His developments have led to capital savings exceeding one billion rubles.

Also recognized was Vladimir Grigorchuk, acting head of the production coordination department at the Nornickel’s Polar Branch. He played a direct role in the project to close all processing stages at the Nickel plant, the TOF-RF second phase project launch, and currently participates in implementing innovative digital technologies, including a successful production dispatching system.

In addition, two more employees from the Polar Branch were awarded diplomas, certificates, badges, and commemorative medals in the second round of the all-Russian contest Engineer of the Year in the Professional Engineers category.

Igor Dzansolov, director of the Talnah mining and concentrating plant, was recognized for his eight rationalization proposals aimed at reducing losses and increasing the output of non-ferrous and precious metals, achieving a total economic benefit of 5.6 billion rubles. Andrey Tsymbalov, director of the Taimyrsky mine, was acknowledged for his involvement in 14 rationalization proposals, which are expected to generate over 950 million rubles in savings.

Vadim Yudin, chief specialist in the technical control and risk management department at Norilsktransgaz, was also awarded the title of Professional Engineer of Russia. He focuses on minimizing risks in gas industry facilities and develops tools and methods for stable gas supply to Norilsk and Dudinka. Vadim is actively involved in improving production processes, having submitted four rationalization proposals that enhance productivity while prioritizing the employees’ health and well-being.

In the Young Engineering Talent category, two employees from the group of companies were recognized. Kirill Voronin, head of the technical department at the Copper plant, is the author of over ten rationalization proposals and 80 production initiatives aimed at improving production efficiency, enhancing environmental conditions in Norilsk, and increasing the accuracy of the accounting system.

Alexander Shendelov, chief manager of the Project Office at the Taimyr fuel company, received an award for developing and implementing innovative automated technologies that improve efficiency during the reconstruction of technological facilities in Nornickel’s energy division. He has authored three rationalization proposals aimed at enhancing the commissioning process of automated control systems and performing repairs on automation equipment. His efforts have led to the establishment of automatic control systems for oil and petroleum product deliveries, and he is currently involved in the reconstruction project of the Kayerkan oil depot.

As noted by Nornickel’s press service, the work of an engineer in production is filled with challenges but offers motivation to apply accumulated experience and knowledge to solve complex technical problems.
