#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. For eight days, the crew of the Avraamy Zavenyagin icebreaker, belonging to the Polar Transport Branch (part of the Nornickel structure), is taking all possible measures to rescue a caravan of seven ships of the Siberia-RechTrans transport company (TC SRT), trapped in ice near Igarka.
On the morning of October 26, after loading empty containers on the barges of the SRT transport company, a caravan of seven vessels (two tugs and five barges) left the port of Dudinka in the direction of Krasnoyarsk.
In the afternoon of October 27, the management of the SRT applied to the Polar Transport Branch with a request for assistance in the icebreaker escort of the convoy to the village of Turuhansk due to the difficult ice situation on the Yenisey.
On October 28, the Avraamy Zavenyagin icebreaker left the port of Dudinka in the direction of Igarka, on October 29 it overtook the convoy of ships and tried to rescue them from the ice captivity. Five ships are already safe. Another vessel, accompanied by the icebreaker, passed the most difficult section of hummocks and is located 70 kilometers from the port of Igarka. The fate of one barge is still questioned due to the impossibility of towing it to a place free of ice.
Earlier, the Polar Transport Branch had informed the shipowners in the port of Dudinka about the forecast date of ice formation – October 25, 2020. The port of Dudinka had been ready to serve all the ships until this date, so that the ships could safely leave for their base in Krasnoyarsk. The shipowners independently made a decision to delay for additional loading of the vessel, as a result they left the port later and found themselves in a difficult ice situation.
