#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Arctic Floating University (APU) researchers are preparing for the first expedition of 2023 – on June 23, scientists will set off on a voyage around Novaya Zemlya on the vessel Professor Molchanov.
During the first expedition, 55 participants of the Arctic Floating University from 16 scientific and educational organizations, including Norilsk, will conduct hydroacoustic research for the first time and study the underwater world of the Arctic seas using a descent vehicle.
In addition, among the new strand of research is the space weather factors’ influence on the parameters of small spacecraft in the polar regions of low Earth orbit.
The researchers will also monitor the hydrological regime of the White, Barents and Kara seas, study their pollution, including microplastics, and take soil samples for the heavy metals’ presence. Scientists will observe Arctic animals and birds around the clock, and study the Arctic islands plankton and plants.
The second Franz Josef Land voyage this season will set off on an expedition on the ship Mikhail Somov on July 1.
Recall that last year, APU scientists studied water, the Arctic plants adaptation to cold conditions and the possibilities of Arctic tourism, as well as the snowfields of Novaya Zemlya – some for the first time.
