#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Norilsk cold swimming team has begun preparing for the stage of the Open Water Swimming World Championship, which will be held on the Putorana Plateau from 12 to 18 July.
The swimming area on Lama lake will be determined later. Athletes who took part in the first mass swim together with newcomers met at the Norilsk Development Agency (NDA, curator of X-WATERS Plateau Putorana). Director of ARN Maxim Mironov said that next summer many more participants are expected and their level of training will be high.
“Therefore, I suggest not to waste time in vain, but to train actively in city pools. The NDA will provide regular team training with cold swimming coaches. More over, the Taimyr Walrus club will wait the swimmers for classes weekly. We would like our team to become stronger from year to year. So that, in the future, Taimyr swimmers will participate in cold swimming competitions not only on lake Lama, but also in other northern territories of the country”, said Maxim Mironov.
The record holder in winter swimming, a cold swimming coach with many years of experience, Natalya Vasilyeva, gave an introductory lecture to the audience, and then the first practical lessons took place in the swimming pool of the X-Fit Sever fitness center.
Let us remind you that 18 daredevils took the start last year. Two of them swam a nautical mile in the icy water, both are from the Norilsk people.
