Norilsk residents learn to feed birds correctly

February 02, 2024

On the same day, a photo exhibition about the Taimyr birds will open.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. On Bird Feeding Day, February 3, the Norilsk Museum invites citizens to support the birds wintering in the park. The museum’s research staff, who are also amateur ornithologists, will talk about Taimyr flying birds and conduct a master class on supporting birds.

Museum workers will offer to mix the perfect food mixture for the birds’ lunch and go out into the park to feed the birds and at the same time find out why not every feeder is suitable for this. After all, the main thing is not their quantity, but careful attention to the diet, concern for survival and nutrition, especially in winter.

Famous Norilsk photographer Alexey Arlyukov will share his experience of photographing birds; he will present an exhibition from his personal archive Birds of Taimyr in the Lens. In the photographs, the feathered heroes are in their natural habitat: nesting, hunting, wintering in the wild.

“Bird photography is one of the most difficult types of photography; there are no duplicates; there may not be a second successful opportunity to take a good shot. The hobby of a bird watcher is watching birds and waiting for many hours for his feathered miracle”, the museum said.

By the way, the museum will announce a competition called Feathered Miracle on the same day. Norilsk residents will be invited to take part in it with their Taimyr bird caught in the frame. The best photographs in three categories will complement the exhibition at the museum in April for Bird Day. We wrote earlier that Taimyr is home to unusual Red Book birds.

Let us remind you that the museum area in the historical center of the city is not only a cozy and popular vacation spot, but birds also live here: sparrows chirp, pigeons fuss. Every winter, the museum monitors the birds, feeds them and encourages Norilsk residents to take care of the park’s fragile ecosystem.

Previously, partridges settled near the museum. We also reported that Nornickel employees rescued buzzard chicks.
