#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. During an expedition to study biodiversity, specialists from the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences discovered a previously unknown weevil in the Big Norilsk area.
The new species is now awaiting a name. According to the RAS’s scientists decision, the inhabitants of the territory where the weevil was found should name the weevil. Therefore, it is Norilsk residents who decide what name will appear in the beetle’s species passport.
From January 22 to January 30, our readers sent us name options. An expert group, which included Severny Gorod employees and the RAS Siberian Branch representatives formed a shortlist of the most interesting and frequently proposed name options.
From January 31 to February 8, an open vote on choosing a name will be held on the media company website. The option with the most votes will be announced on February 9. That’s what our weevil will be called.
