#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The authors of the service for measuring the carbon footprint for the Northern Sea Route waters are specialists from the marine research center of the Lomonosov Moscow state university and the Morintech company, which are part of the competence center consortium of the Technologies for Reducing Anthropogenic Impact NTI.
“The system processes data from the automated identification system (AIS), which records the tracks of vessels, their speed and other parameters. It calculates fuel consumption, including taking into account the results of previous voyages. The volumes of fuel consumption for a specific period are converted into CO2 volumes. The results are presented in the form of an interactive map, they allow you to monitor the emissions of each vessel and reduce the negative impact. This project is especially important in the context of record volumes of cargo transportation along the NSR”, the press service of the National Technology Initiative (NTI) platform reported.
In the future, the service can be extended to other water areas, which will allow global monitoring and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in maritime shipping, helping to improve the environmental situation on the planet, TASS writes.
