#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. From 2013 to 2023, Greenland’s rocks rose by 20 centimeters – the equivalent of two meters in 100 years. The process is associated with the disappearance of the ice sheet, according to scientists from the Technical University of Denmark. Researchers believe that sudden climate change could alter the seascape and lead to the emergence of new islands in the Arctic. The work was published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters (GRL).
The conclusions are based on data from 61 measuring stations and information from the GNET network library.
The Greenland rise is explained by the fact that the land was previously pressed down by glaciers and, although they retreated 12 thousand years ago, the land is still rising. An additional factor is climate change caused by global warming. Further rise could cause the formation of many islands along the Greenland coast.
Previously, scientists reported that the Earth is not in danger of a new ice age in the near future. Climate change could lead to the extinction of many animal species.
