The polar captain Daniil Gavrilov is planning to make a risky journey alone. Now he is preparing for sailing his Arctic Fury racing yacht. The start is scheduled for July 2021.
In the interview with the Petersburg Diary, the traveler said that no one had done anything like this before. At the same time, about ten years ago, he took a risk, joining the Arctic round-the-world expedition with a team, which was also the first time in history. According to the explorer, now he is experienced enough to overcome this path on his own.
“It will be completely autonomous, without entering ports or replenishing supplies. During these six months I will sail around the Arctic, go down the Atlantic and overtake Antarctica. One of the main issues is the strengthening of the boat’s carbon hull. It is not ready to travel through the ice yet. As a result, it should withstand the impact of ice floes, but at the same time it should not become too heavy. Another important point is to calculate the time to disperse with the main ice mass. The time window that allows you to do this is very small, just a few weeks”, Daniil Gavrilov said.
He also noted that during the trip there will be no any ship next to him even for an emergency case.
“Through technical means, the achievement will be recorded by the official judge of the Guinness Book of Records and a number of other organizations”, the traveler explained.
