May 10, 2023

The calf will be transported to Royev Ruchey, where zoologists have big experience in nursing such animals.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Employees of a diamond mining company in Taimyr rescued and temporarily sheltered a musk ox calf – it was found near its dead mother body when they were driving equipment from a winter road.

The baby was born not long ago, its size is no more than an average dog. This story was first reported by the @sakhahunter Telegram channel. Residents of Yakutia suggested that this happened in their region. However, later it turned out that the calf was found in the north of Krasnoyarsk region.

Now the baby is still with the company’s employees – they feed the calf with powdered milk. The region’s Ministry of Ecology is aware of the situation. Specialists are already drawing up documents to transport the musk ox to Royev Ruchey. The Krasnoyarsk zoo specialists are quite experienced in nursing such animals.

In 2022, Taimyr Reserves updated data on the number of musk oxen on the peninsula, but they have not yet been published.
