More arctic settlements to get Internet connection

Nornickel managed to provide part of the territory with broadband Internet.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Krasnoyarsk region expects to employ federal funds for the construction of fiber-optic communication lines in the Arctic. Nornickel managed to provide part of this territory with broadband Internet.

Allocating subsidies for the Arctic zone for the construction of fiber-optic communication lines is being considered. For example, in Igarka the FOCL was built by Nornickel, it can be completed in Turuhansk. And also to Dixon from Dudinka to close the ring. It is believed that such a decision may take place in the next few months.

Now 30 settlements in the north of the region are not provided with communications. Every year, the authorities of the region, at their own expense, connect two or three northern villages to Internet. Communication there is provided through satellite trunk channels. People do not have high-speed connection, but there is a stable mobile one with correctly working messengers. Taimyr residents themselves can choose villages where mobile Internet will appear.

Recall that in 2014 Nornickel decided to build a fiber-optic communication line from Novy Urengoy to Norilsk. Three years later, the construction of a line along the route Novy Urengoy – Libyaha – Sidorovsk – Vankor field – Igarka – Snezhnogorsk – Norilsk with a length of 956 kilometers was completed. The volume of investments in the project amounted to 2.5 billion rubles.

The FOCL made it possible to provide residents of Norilsk and Dudinka with high-speed Internet. The broadband Internet to the North laying in 2017 was awarded the Snob magazine award. Last autumn, Nornickel completed the construction of the second FOCL in Taimyr – the one on the Norilsk railway.

In 2021, communication appeared in 11 settlements of Taimyr, in five of them it had not existed at all.
