Monument to Dikson bear to be set in Moscow

September 23, 2024

This symbol will remind everyone of the importance of compassion and support.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. At the end of August 2022, a polar bear with serious injuries came to the village of Dikson. For treatment, he was first taken to Norilsk, and then transported to the Moscow zoo. Doctors found entry holes of different diameters on the animal’s body. According to the doctor, the bear was shot with homemade buckshot.

In September 2023, Dikson (the bear was named after the village where it was found) died while sleeping from acute cardiopulmonary failure. According to veterinarians, his condition worsened due to the progression of spinal cord lesions, as well as due to a secondary infection of the urinary and respiratory tract.

Svetlana Akulova, the Moscow zoo director, wrote about plans to set a monument to the bear in her Telegram channel.

She said that they are currently working on this issue.

“We want this symbol to remind everyone of the importance of compassion and support that we can give to animals in difficult times”, Akulova wrote.

Earlier, This Is Taimyr wrote that polar bears adapted to Arctic conditions 70 thousand years ago.
