#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Gas carrier Boris Davydov on the way from China to Sabetta freed the scientific expeditionary vessel Mikhail Somov, which was frozen on the Northern Sea Route (NSR). This is reported by TASS with reference to a correspondent who is on the expedition.
Now, in the eastern part of the Northern Sea Route, two dozen vessels flying different flags are stuck in the ice. They are waiting in line for the convoying. There are three nuclear-powered icebreakers operating in the water area of the NSR: Yamal, Taimyr and Vaygach.
According to the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East, navigation in November was organized on the basis of an unreliable forecast of ice conditions. This year, several sections of the NSR were frozen several weeks earlier than usual. As a rule, companies pre-order icebreakers from Rosatom, but the forecasts were optimistic. To provide urgent assistance to all ships caught in difficult ice conditions in the NSR water area, an operational headquarters has been created.
Let us recall that in recent years, the ships movement along the Northern Sea Route has intensified. This is due to a warming climate, an increased volume of northern deliveries, and the development of investment projects in the Arctic.
