#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The chief specialist of the Nornickel company’s center for supervision of hydraulic structures’ hydraulic engineering laboratory Igor Suhov, spoke about the flood situation development.
“The situation with ice movement this year repeats the year before last. The difference in edge advancement is only about twenty kilometers. However, this does not mean that everything will go as in 2022. Now we have a preliminary forecast, it works up to the Selivaniha village, (Turuhansk district), which is approximately 536 kilometers from us, then we will recalculate it”, he noted.
The specialist clarified that at the moment the ice edge on the Yenisey river is 21 kilometers above the village of Nazimovo in the Yenisey district, the rate of advance is approximately four kilometers per day. The estimated start date of ice drift is June 2.
The earliest ice drift in the Dudinka area was observed in 2020, when it began on May 17 at a water level of 13.94 meters, and the latest was recorded in 1996 – on June 16 at a water level of 15.95 meters.
