How to see seal and polar bear at home?

June 16, 2021

The application allows you to “revive” the inhabitants of the North right in the apartment.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Polar Bear AR application based on ARCore and ARKit markerless augmented reality technology allows you to revive the predator right at home. The program was developed by the Ecological Fund of the Siberian Federal University with the support of the Project Office for the Development of the Arctic expert center (PORA).

Now the exposition about the polar bear works only in the Polar Bear educational center in Norilsk. But augmented reality can be created at home or, for example, in a classroom.

To do this, you need to download a marker (polar bear) in the application, print it, put it on the floor and point the camera onto it. The size of the augmented reality image depends on the size of the printed marker and may be smaller than the actual size of the bear.

“When you hover over the images, the content is activated, then the position is determined by the environment. Thus, we will be able to see a bear in full growth, arctic birds flying under the ceiling – a guillemot, with a seal in a hole right in the floor”, the developers said.

The ARKit Bear app only works with ARKit-enabled devices.
