The healthiest berries that help strengthen the immune system before winter comes are blue and black. They contain the most natural antioxidants, said Sergey Chudakov, general director of the Health of the Healthy union and PhD in medicine.
“One of the best sources of vitamins are berries: raspberries, strawberries, black and red currants, cranberries, lingonberries, sea buckthorn. The color of the berry is also important. All berries and vegetables that are blue and black are a source of antioxidants, the so-called proanthocyanidins. In addition to black currants, they are found in such wild berries as blackberries and blueberries”, he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
He also noted that sea buckthorn is rich in vitamin E and beta-carotene, and raspberries and blackberries are rich in anti-inflammatory substances, silicylates, which reduce the severity of colds.
To strengthen the immune system, the doctor also recommended the herb echinacea and hardening.
“When starting such procedures, it is important to monitor how the body reacts to them. Hardening is a general strengthening procedure, which is used according to approved methods in medical institutions. It involves the effect of different temperatures on the body, during hardening small doses of the stress hormone are produced, increasing humoral immunity”, the doctor concluded.
