#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Hatanga aviation weather station celebrated its 95th anniversary. According to archival data, the first weather observations were made on December 1, 1928. At first they were carried out from time to time, but constant observations of the weather began only ten years later.
With the appearing of aviation in Taimyr, Hatanga became an intermediate airfield for aircraft flying from Dudinka to the area of Kosisty and Nordvik. At that time, there was a regular need for weather information.
In the 1970−1980s, the Hatanga weather station united several divisions that dealt with meteorology, aerology, hydrology and forecasts. They conducted an extensive program of regular observations of the weather, northern lights, solar radiation, air pollution, snow cover, the regime of the Hatanga river, carried out atmospheric sounding and agrometeorological observations. Currently, most of this list has been reduced or eliminated altogether.
Currently, the weather station staff consists of sixteen people in two divisions – observation meteorologists and weather forecasters. All specialists are engaged in aviation maintenance – observing the actual weather and forecasting it. The Hatanga weather station is part of the international network of reference weather stations; its data is used by both regional and world weather centers.
