#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. By order of Rosatom, construction of a new series of diesel icebreakers with a capacity of 40 MW will begin in 2024. The lead vessel is planned to be put into operation in 2028.
As Rosatom’s special representative for Arctic development Vladimir Panov said, the preliminary cost of each icebreaker will exceed 30 billion rubles, Vedomosti reports.
At the moment, the construction of nuclear icebreakers of 22220 Arctica and 10510 Leader projects is also ongoing. Currently, work is underway at the Baltic Shipyard to create the third and fourth icebreakers of the series – Yakutia and Chukotka, which are scheduled to be delivered in December 2024 and December 2026, respectively. The fifth and sixth ships are going to be ready by 2028 and 2030. The icebreaker of the Leader project, which is being built in the Primorsky region, will be ready in 2027; the name Russia is reserved for it.
