June 27, 2024

Scientists, undergraduate and graduate students will conduct research in three Arctic seas.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The 18th expedition of the Arctic Floating University started from Arhangelsk on the research vessel of the Northern Administration for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring Professor Molchanov.

The expedition will last three weeks and will take place in the waters of the White, Barents and Kara seas, and also plans to visit Novaya Zemlya and Franz Josef Land.

The expedition involves 55 people from 17 scientific and educational institutions and organizations. These are experienced and young scientists, specialists, students and graduate students from different regions of Russia.

The floating university will study Arctic ecosystems under conditions of climate change and increasing anthropogenic pressure. Scientists will assess the biodiversity state – in particular, bird colonies, marine mammals, planktonic and microbial communities, flora, pollution of the Arctic seas and islands, and study the hydrometeorological regime of the seas of the Arctic Ocean, the B-PORT news agency (Murmansk) reports.
