#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Roscosmos and Rosrybolovstvo signed an agreement on cooperation in the use of space technologies to ensure high-precision navigation in the Arctic. This was reported by the Northern Sea Route Telegram channel.
In 2024, it is planned to resolve issues of communication and weather forecasting; in 2025–2026, based on Roscosmos data, monitoring of biological resources in the northern seas will begin. This will expand fishing areas and improve control over it.
In addition, the state space corporation is going to provide stable communications to hard-to-reach Arctic territories, in particular the Northern Sea Route (NSR). This will contribute to the development of robotics and unmanned aircraft.
To ensure navigation along the Northern Sea Route, it is planned to launch nine satellites into orbit, these are the Arktika-M, Condor-FKA, and Obzor-R satellites. In 2025, the Meteor-M low-orbit satellites, which will monitor the movement of ice, should start operating in the Arctic.
After 2025, the Arktika-M satellites are planned to be replaced by the next generation, the Arktika-MP, and by 2026, four Express-RV satellites are expected to be launched into orbit.
Let us remind you that Russia’s investments in the Northern Sea Route can become the most profitable for the country. 2024 will be a record year for traffic volumes on the NSR.
