Ichthyologists will use recorders to search for fish in the ancient lakes of Chukotka. The attention focus of scientists of the Kronotsky Reserve is several lakes of Kamchatka, in each of which, during last year’s expeditions, they discovered previously not described and not studied complexes of fish species. According to the press service of the reserve, the devices (loggers) will be installed in all the studied reservoirs. They will measure the water level and temperature for several years.
Recorders of temperature and water level – the project of the research group from Moscow State University named after Lomonosov. The loggers can store data from millions of measurements and withstand diving to ocean depths. The expedition began on July 15 and will last about two months; such studies have not been carried out for almost 30 years.
“During the expedition, ichthyologists expect to discover new species of fish, preserved since the pre-glacial period. This will allow specialists to clarify some of the issues of evolution and adaptation of animals to changing natural conditions, as well as assess the state of lake ecosystems”, said the reserve specialists.
Now, when they are preparing to make the Russian Arctic a special economic zone, interest in it has increased many times over. It concerns the study of not only economic opportunities, but also flora and fauna. Thus, at the invitation of Nornickel, RAS scientists launched the Big Norilsk Expedition. They will comprehensively study the ecological environment of Taimyr. This kind of deep research in the Arctic Circle has not been done for several decades.
Earlier, the This is Taimyr told that in the north of the Krasnoyarsk region, the reindeer migration routes will be monitored with satellite collars.
