#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The dual-use seaports of Tiksi and Dikson on the Northern Sea Route will be reconstructed. This was stated by the commander of the Northern Fleet, admiral Alexander Moiseyev.
“As part of the state policy of the Russian Federation in the Arctic and the implementation of the instructions of the Russian Federation president on the development of the Northern Sea Route and the coast of the Arctic seas, the reconstruction of the dual-use seaports of Tiksi and Dikson is envisaged”, TASS quotes Moiseev.
According to him, this “will allow the fleet’s forces to quickly respond to possible threats to the navigation safety, to base ships on a permanent basis throughout the entire length of the Northern Sea Route during the summer navigation period, and in the future, with the arrival of new ice-class ships, all year round”.
Earlier, This Is Taimyr wrote that the Northern Sea Route cargo turnover should amount to 200 million tons. We also wrote about the role of the Northern Sea Route in the global economy.
