#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The optimal number of bears for the Krasnoyarsk region is nine thousand animals. At the same time, due to population growth, animals are increasingly coming out to people. Just last October, a high alert regime was introduced in Krasnoyarsk due to the appearance of bears on the city streets. Animals were observed in the left bank part of Krasnoyarsk – Sovetsky, Zheleznodorozhny and Octyabrsky districts.
Cases of brown bears entering the outskirts of Norilsk residential areas have become more frequent. Taimyr residents have to deal with polar bears, against which firearms cannot be used due to the animal’s Red Book status.
“The bear population in the Krasnoyarsk region turned out to be three times higher. Currently, about 30 thousand brown bears live in the region – this figure exceeds the optimal number of individuals of this predator by more than three times” said Alexander Savchenko, head of the department of hunting resources and reserve management at the Siberian Federal University.
