#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. During a working meeting, the Rosprirodnadzor federal service for supervision of natural resources’ head Svetlana Radionova proposed to the Russian president to create a Bear Patrol, a team of veterinarians and specialists who would teach residents the rules of conduct when meeting polar predators.
Svetlana Radionova identified the village of Dikson as the first point requiring such a team of professionals.
“We now have a lot of conflict situations in Dixon. It is difficult to reach, it’s a long way to get there by helicopter, and there aren’t many specialists there, especially bear ones. Every time we bring a veterinarian there from Moscow, from the Moscow Zoo”, she said in a conversation with the president.
On her page, Svetlana Radionova also noted that the Bear Patrol should work in every settlement adjacent to the polar bear’s habitat.
Earlier, we reported that from Taimyr to Yamal, Rosprirodnadzor counted 42 polar bears.
