#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Researchers from the Arctic Floating University (AFU) will focus on currents, carbon dioxide flows, coastal ecosystems, and microorganisms in the Barents sea. TASS reports on the university’s planned expeditions for 2025, citing Alexander Saburov, the head of AFU-2025.
This year, the university is set to explore 14 scientific areas, a record range of the diverse projects in recent years. Among these studies is the examination of new strains of lactic acid bacteria associated with both vertebrates and invertebrates. A new focus will also be on the carbonate system and carbon dioxide flows in the Barents sea.
The expedition will involve 55 participants, who will investigate the Barents sea waters and conduct ground studies in northern Novaya Zemlya and the Franz Josef Land islands. The exact route will depend on ice conditions. The expedition aboard the Professor Molchanov vessel is scheduled to begin in late June or early July.
It’s worth noting that the AFU scientists studied the Baltic sea in 2024, where they discovered that women tend to be more adaptable than men in stressful situations.
