Arctic sea and river vessels to have new propeller model

July 18, 2024

The multi-layer coating of the equipment makes it resistant to low temperatures and ice.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Specialists from Saratov State Technical University named after Yu.A. Gagarin have developed a new, especially durable and reliable model of a propeller. It is intended for use on modern engines of sea and river vessels in the Far North, the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation reported.

The propeller blades are protected with a special coating that is most resistant to various types of damage – cavitation, corrosion, mechanical damage, TASS writes. This coating was obtained as a result of the formation of titanium oxide fine powders and tungsten carbide layers on the blades surface.

The ministry notes that such a design will be in demand in the regions of the Far North, where due to cold and ice the blades wear out and become deformed very quickly.
