#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. According to forecasts from an international team, in 75 years, the Arctic ocean is expected to be completely ice-free during summer for several months. Calculations indicate that by 2100, global temperatures could rise by 2.7 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels.
Researchers from the National Snow and Ice Data Center have concluded that by the end of the 21st century, the Arctic could change dramatically due to climate warming, as reported by Gazeta.ru.
Warming in the Arctic is happening four times faster than the global average, which means the region will face profound transformations at this rate.
The area of the Greenland ice sheet, where temperatures exceed 0 degrees Celsius, is projected to increase fourfold, leading to accelerated sea level rise. Additionally, surface permafrost is expected to shrink by 50% compared to pre-industrial levels.
Earlier, scientested revealed that the Earth’s temperature has risen by 1.7 degrees over the past 160 years and discussed the first steps toward establishing a global climate monitoring system for the planet.
