February 22, 2024

Professor Molchanov research vessel will set off on June 25.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. From June 25 to July 16, a new expedition of the Arctic Floating University (AFU) will take place on the research vessel Professor Molchanov in the Barents and Kara seas – scientists will study the ecosystems of northern waters, taking into account climate change and increasing anthropogenic pressure.

Also, in 2024 they plan to study the seas’ hydrometeorological regime, the relationship between cloudiness and solar radiation, the presence of organic pollutants, marine debris and microplastics, human adaptation, flora and fauna, including microorganisms.

This was reported at the Northern (Arctic) Federal University (NAFU) during the winter school of floating universities.

Let us remind you that AFU expeditions have been carried out since 2012. In the new season, the ship will pass through the islands in the Nenets autonomous district and the Arhangelsk region, through the territory of the Russian Arctic national park, in the White, Barents and Kara seas. Researchers plan to reach Franz Josef Land.

Let us remind you that the unique experience of the floating university was included in the Russian hundred main achievements.
