#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. According to the route, the scientists of the Arctic Floating University (AFU), after unloading on Dikson, had to go to cape Sterlegov in Taimyr, and then to the islands of Solitude and Izvestia CEC.
In this part of the Kara sea, dense is ice, the participants of the extreme journey note in their diaries, and “a scientific expedition vessel cannot break through it.” Therefore, the captain decided to go to cape Zhelaniya, the northern tip of Novaya Zemlya, and from there to Franz Josef Land. So the ship Somov headed northwest and found a white rainbow on its way.
“A foggy or white rainbow is a fairly common phenomenon in foggy places, including the Arctic, but it is very difficult to catch it – it usually appears for only a few seconds. The multi-colored rainbow familiar to all of us is formed on large raindrops, and we see a clear spectrum, seven colors. Here, refraction occurs on smaller fog droplets. But if you look closely, you can also distinguish different colors of the spectrum”, notes Yulia Smirnova, the diarizer.
Previously, the Mikhail Somov ship research expedition specialists for the first time conducted comprehensive research at cape Sopochnaya Karga of the Taimyr peninsula, where the polar station of the same name is located. We also reported that Chinese scientists are exploring the Arctic Ocean.
