#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. In the 90s, the residents of the Far North were in a very difficult situation. That is why an association was created on October 5, 1992 – the Arctic and the Far North Cities Union, which now consists of 46 cities, including Norilsk and Dudinka.
The main tasks of the association are to promote the North economy and the northerners’ social status stabilization, the preservation of unique nature, the indigenous peoples, their culture and traditional crafts.
Over the years, it was possible to solve many difficult issues. The union made a significant contribution to the preparation of the main law for northerners – the law on state guarantees and compensation, at the highest state level proved the need for urgent measures for some northern problems that arose in connection with the transition to market relations.
In order for the North to become comfortable and attractive to people, the association continues active work in important directions for northerners. This is the socio-economic situation of municipalities and the implementation of national projects in the Far North, the northern cities and villages housing stock state, the problems of MSW handling, taking into account special climatic conditions, the involvement of qualified personnel for work in the Arctic zone and in the Far North, and the development of small aircraft for health care in remote territories and more.
Now the Arctic and the Far North Cities Union, together with the involved specialists, is developing a strategy for attracting personnel to the northern territories for the long-term period. A number of leading Moscow universities are ready for cooperation in the field of personnel support, taking into account the wide geography of municipalities included in the association.
This year in the city of Uhta of the Komi Republic, the 41st congress of the Arctic and the Far North Cities Union, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the association, will be held. The presidential administration representatives, federal, regional and municipal authorities, members of the public and commercial and industrial chambers of the Russian Federation plan to take part in the event.
Recall that at the 40th congress, which took place last year in Norilsk, environmental safety in the Arctic, maintaining territories and increasing their status were discussed. Nornickel also participated in the congress.
