#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. A gala evening dedicated to the presentation of qualification marks to polar explorers took place in Moscow. Ten participants of high-latitude expeditions were awarded the polar explorer-instructor qualification.
“The 2024–2025 expeditions will be led by trained professional polar explorers”, said Veronika Simonova, head of the Arctic and Siberian Research Center of the RAS Federal Scientific Research Center. “The most experienced participants in the upcoming expeditions undergo special training and education in order to pass exams and get the polar explorer-instructor qualification. These specialists can be trusted by groups of people; they are not only theoretically, but also practically prepared for various situations”.

Not only scientists are among the new polar explorers, but also a journalist, documentary film producer, and artist. These people are professionally involved in the Arctic and plan to join the large-scale expedition Clean Arctic – Vostok – 77 in 2024.
The first to get the Polar Explorer-Instructor badge at the gala evening was all-terrain vehicle tester Vladimir Dmitriev. It’s interesting that in 2023 Vladimir at the helm of the URSA all-terrain vehicle, covered 900 kilometers along homemade or irregularly used winter roads from Yamal through the entire Taimyr to Hatanga. This spring, as part of the expedition, he will have to drive an URSA all-terrain vehicle with a special Arctic box van in the area of the ancient city of Mangazeya in the east of the Yamal-Nenets autonomous district, and then reach Norilsk and Hatanga.
“This year we will have complex tests of cabin insulation for manned Arctic equipment, we will also test a set of mobile heating station made of new polymer materials, so the training that I received at the Polar Explorer-Instructor course of the Russian Academy of Sciences with the support of the Association of Polar Explorers will be very useful”, said Vladimir Dmitriev.
Only experienced participants of polar scientific expeditions who have a practical understanding of working and living conditions in the North, who have attended a course of lectures by RAS specialists and passed qualifying exams, can obtain the polar explorer-instructor qualification.
Earlier, This Is Taimyr reported that a unique exhibition project about the Arctic had started in Moscow.
