#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. At the North Pole-42 drifting station, scientists adapted for the first time a gravimeter designed to measure absolute gravity on land objects in the high latitudes of the Arctic Ocean, the press service of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute reported.
The institute noted that the data obtained will significantly expand Russia’s gravimetric network, will become the basis for solving key scientific problems and will be used to study the internal structure.
As part of the North Pole-42 expedition scientific program, the absolute gravimeter will be used in projects to clarify the continental shelf’s boundaries, study the Arctic ocean floor’s geological structure and analyze the tectonic plates movement (spreading zones).
