“At the end of this week, it will set off on its maiden voyage along the Northern Sea Route”, said the head of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev.
The construction of the atomic icebreaker Arctic began at the Baltic shipyard in November 2013; on June 16, 2016, it was launched. In October this year, the icebreaker officially entered the Russian nuclear fleet.
The series will include four more icebreakers: Sibir, Ural, Yakutia and Chukotka. They are planned to be commissioned in 2021, 2022, 2024 and 2026. At the same time, the construction of the lead icebreaker of 10510 project Leader is underway, it is expected to be commissioned in 2027.
