#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. A long-term program for the development of geological exploration is being prepared by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East. This was stated by the Minister for the Development of the Far East Alexander Kozlov during a meeting on the Northern Sea Route development in Murmansk.
As Alexander Kozlov noted, the departments and companies have drawn up a list of projects to ensure the planning of the cargo base along the Northern Sea Route in the next four years. According to him, for a gradual increase in freight traffic after 2024, it is necessary to create conditions for attracting new investments. The package of federal laws on Arctic preferences is aimed at this.
The minister also added that icebreakers play a key role in the implementation of projects.
“For example, the projects of Novatek and Rosneft are focused, among other things, on the export of products to the Asia-Pacific region along the eastern flank of the Northern Sea Route, which is the most difficult in terms of ice conditions. This is a new challenge for the single operator of the NSR, the state corporation Rosatom. It depends on its decision whether the Northern Sea Route will become a competitive year-round transport corridor of global importance”, Interfax quotes the head of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East.
