Rosmorrechflot has deployed vessels for the 2024/25 winter.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Nuclear and diesel icebreakers ensure year-round accessibility to 16 freezing seaports of the country and the safe movement of ships in their waters.

A meeting was held at the Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport (Rosmorrechflot) under the chairmanship of the agency head Andrey Tarasenko on the preparation of the fleet for the 2024/25 winter icebreaker campaign, at which it was planned to deploy icebreakers in the Arctic seas and in the waters of freezing ports of Russia, the goarctic.ru portal reports.

Nuclear and diesel icebreakers are involved in icebreaker escorts and ensure year-round accessibility to 16 freezing seaports of the country and the safe movement of ships in their waters. Accordingly, icebreakers that are state-owned are distributed among the basins – the Arctic, Baltic, Azov, Caspian and Far Eastern.

Three nuclear-powered icebreakers are currently operating on the Northern Sea Route: 50 Let Pobedy, Yamal and Sibir. Two other Atomflot icebreakers – Ural and Vaigach – provide ship escorts on the Yenisey. The icebreaker Taimyr will begin escorting ships on the Dudinka line in December.

Rosmorrechflot plans to use the built universal nuclear icebreaker of project (UAL) 22220 Yakutia in the Arctic: in February 2025, it will leave St. Petersburg for the Ob bay of the Kara sea. Currently, one icebreaker is conducting sea trials in the gulf of Finland. Today, three Project 22220 UALs are already operating in the NSR waters: the lead Arctica and two serial ones, Sibir and Ural. The Atomflot’s flagship Arctica will enter the Northern Sea Route in March 2025.

According to Flagman News, diesel icebreakers Novorossiysk and Tor are working in the port of Sabetta. And with the beginning of ice formation in the waters of the port of Dikson and Sever bay, the icebreaker Murmansk. At the end of the year, two others, Admiral Makarov and Krasin, are expected to join them.
