#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Based on the results of the first meeting of the headquarters on the development of cities and other settlements in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, 26 stronghold settlements in the Arctic were identified. Norilsk, Dudinka, Dikson and Igarka are among them.
“Supporting settlements have historically played a strategic role in the development of the vast Arctic territories of our country. Many forts, once created by legendary pioneers, have grown into the world’s largest Arctic cities. A new era in the development of the Russian Arctic, the development of the Northern Sea Route, and security tasks require focused and synchronized actions. Determining the list of support settlements in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation will strengthen the socio-economic framework of the Russian Arctic. The main goal of this work is the accelerated development of all regions of the Far North and improving the quality of northerners’ life”, the ministry quotes the words of the headquarters chairman, of the Eastern Development Ministry head Alexey Chekunkov.
The regions have already begun to make the cities and towns development master plans, on the basis of which an action plan will be formed, which will have to be approved by the government. The corresponding funds will be allocated in the federal budget starting in 2025.
We previously reported that when drawing up master plans for supporting cities, the plan for the Norilsk integrated development until 2035 will be used as a model.
