#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. How little was at that time known about the future northern city and Taimyr can be seen from the very first lines: “In the distant Hatanga tundra, in Norilsk, this spring the construction of a small town will begin”. We are 600 kilometers from Hatanga, but, apparently, in Krasnoyarsk they did not pay attention to this fact.
The article said that in 1930 they would carry out all the preparatory work for the construction of the metallurgical plant for the copper-nickel ores processing and ore and coal deposits opening.
“With the first steamboats, hundreds of workers will go there to wake up the gloomy tundra with the clatter and roar of the construction site. Barracks for 400-500 people, a hospital with 20 beds, a school, a canteen, and a number of outbuildings and service buildings will appear this summer. The future of Norilsk is a fabulous future…” – this is how Krasnoyarsky Rabochiy saw Norilsk.
In the History Spot’s previous publication, we told about the fact that the first Norilsk energy facilities had to be grounded in the surrounding lakes: permafrost interferes with conventional grounding.
