Water New Year parties held in Norilsk basin

April 25, 2023

In the 1960s, during the holidays, the Norilsk basin, the first in the world's Arctic, turned into a water theater.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Every city dweller tried to buy tickets to see the performance with figure swimming, with Neptune rising from the water, and, of course, with Father Frost and the Snow Maiden in a boat.

The action took place in the city pool with the participation of coaches, athletes and the Culture Palace’s performers.

Everything was there: the battle of pure and evil forces, the heroes and Vodyanoy jumped from three-meter springboards and a ten-meter tower, the battle on the water was comped with the Saber Dance performed by the Culture Palace musicians.

From December 28 to January 10, they gave three performances a day, and there was always a full house.

In the History Spot’s photo project previous publication, we talked about an old Taimyr tradition – spring smelt fishing on the Yenisey.
