#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Taimyr Museum of Local History, a key partner of the Heroes of the Arctic: Love and Duty project, supported by the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives, is nearing completion of the play The Horizon Called Them….
The play about the participants of the Great Northern Expedition Vasily and Tatyana Pronchishchev, Semyon Chelyuskin, Vitus Bering is being staged by Taimyr director Marina Petrakova based on her own script. The project consultant, former director of the Taimyr Museum Olga Korneyeva, was involved in selecting materials for the script. The full member of the Russian Geographical Society worked in the scientific archive and the RGS library. The famous Krasnoyarsk artist Elena Ilyankova was responsible for the scenery for the production. Her ‘living canvases’ will be broadcast on a panoramic screen. The multimedia scenery will allow the project to tour actively.
The other day, the project team received a parcel from Perm with costumes for the main characters. They were made by fashion designer Olga Velichko. The director does not hide the fact that the result exceeded her expectations. According to Marina Petrakova, sketches were developed with historical accuracy before sewing the costumes:
“In accordance with all the canons of the 18th century, real masterpieces were created, which the main characters of the production will have to wear. In total, the fashion designer made four outfits: Vitus Bering, Vasily and Tatyana Pronchishchev, Semyon Chelyuskin. The sets include underwear and outerwear, shoes, hats and accessories for the participants of the Great Northern Expedition”, Marina Petrakova said.
The premiere of the romantic story about love and great geographical discoveries is scheduled for the end of January – beginning of February 2025. After the show at the Taimyr Museum of Local History, the play The Horizon Called Them… will be shown in Norilsk, Hatanga, Moscow and St. Petersburg.
