#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. This is one of the few original buildings in the city and the largest of the spectacular ones. The implementation of the project was under threat, since initially the deputy minister of Non-Ferrous Metallurgy for Construction refused to give permission for a new building, saying that it was not the right time… It was a period when there were restrictions on the construction of new cultural objects in the country. In addition, the construction was planned at the expense of the plant. Another project of the Norilsk theater could remain unrealized. However, the construction site was approved.

The construction of the theater began in April 1983. The builders drove the first pile together with the troupe. The project was supposed to be completed by the 50th anniversary of the plant, that is, in 1985.
However, the new building of the Norilsk Polar Drama theater named after Vladimir Mayakovsky at 34 Leninsky prospect was opened in January 1987. After the ceremony of cutting the red ribbon, the head of the Norilskstroy construction company, Valery Latyshev, and the author of the project, architect Anatoly Chernyshev, presented a symbolic key to the troupe on stage.

In February, Special Purpose. Zavenyagin in Norilsk by Anatoly Koshelev opened the 46th theater season.
