#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Among minerals found here there are those that were first discovered in the Norilsk ores.
As discoverers, Norilsk geologists gave the minerals our local names. This is how Norilskite, Taimyrite, Polarite, Putaronite, Harelahite, Talnakhite and Mayakite appeared in the world list.
And about a dozen more minerals were named in honor of local geologists – Urvantsevite, Kotulskite, Fedorovskite, Godlevskite, Kravtsovite.
The last in this series – Genplesite – was discovered in 2014 and named after Gennady Plesin, a surveyor from the Oktyabrsky mine, who found it.
There are very rare minerals among the Norilsk minerals. For example, the mineral Moihukit, discovered in South Africa on a single grain, has been mined here for years.
And the mineral Talnakhite, which forms deposits of tens of meters at Mayak mine, was subsequently discovered on the Moon.
In the last issue of the photo project “History Spot” we talked about the fact that the first mayor of Norilsk was a woman.
