Izvestia newspaper helped in elections in Norilsk in 1979

For the elections to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR in 1979, the Norilsk people prepared the Izvestia campaign.

The Ministry of Non-Ferrous Metallurgy and Aeroflot participated in the preparation of the campaign route for the constituencies in the Far North, together with the Izvestia newspaper.

It is known that in Norilsk, guests were lowered underground, taken to the Copper plant and to school No. 13.

Together with cosmonaut Vyacheslav Zudov the Norilsk people met honored master of sports, famous athlete Igor Ter-Ovanesyan and international grandmaster chess player Yevgeny Vasyukov.

Vyacheslav Zudov at the meetings talked about his flight, which he made in October 1976 on the Soyuz-23. Sports legend Igor Ter-Ovanesyan told about preparations for the 1980 Olympics. Chess legend Yevgeny Vasyukov conducted a simultaneous game session on 20 boards.

At the elections to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR held on March 4, the director of the Norilsk Mining and Metallurgical Combine (NMMC) Boris Kolesnikov was elected a deputy in the Norilsk electoral district.
