#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. After the death of the man who laid the foundations of the Arctic giant in 1938-1941, the Norilsk combine was named after him.
In the year of the 25th anniversary of the plant, on July 23, 1960, a monument to the twice Hero of Socialist Labor was unveiled on the Administrative square. The square was renamed after him. By the way, the second bust, in the homeland of Avraamy Pavlovich, in Uzlovaya settlement, was installed only in 1981.
The Nornickel Polar Division archive contains unique footage of the Zavenyagin’s 70th anniversary celebration in Norilsk.
Judging by the photographs, on April 14, 1971, a blizzard broke out in the city, but the anniversary meeting with speeches and the laying of flowers at the monument was not canceled.
Nikolay Mashyanov, director of NMMC, made a speech to the workers. This was the first manager who grew up at the combine and knew it thoroughly.
Three decades after Zavenyagin’s departure from Norilsk, his scheme continued to work and bear fruit.
In 1971, Komsomolsky, the second Talnakh mine, gave ore, construction on the Nadezhdinsky metallurgical plant site began.
At the beginning of that year, the city received its first Order – the Red Banner of Labor, and the director of the Norilsk Mining and Metallurgical Combine Nikolay Mashyanov was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor.
