#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. This happened to the geologist Nikolay Urvantsev, when in the summer of 1929 he explored the banks of the Lower Taimyr river with a small expedition.
In the middle of the journey, the expedition entered the basin of the Gorbita and Volchya (Wolf) rivers, where they stopped to study the area. First of all, Nikolay informed Geological Committee (Geolcom) about the state of affairs.
Urvantsev sent a package to Dudinka with a local Dolgan guide. He attached a bird feather to it, which meant: the package was supposed to fly across the tundra at the speed of a bird. And indeed, on the third day, the package crossed the whole Taimyr and reached Dudinka without failure.
From there, a telegram went to Leningrad, and this is where the failure occurred. Urvantsev reported: “WE HAVE REACHED THE GORBITA. BASE ON THE WOLF. AFTER THE ICE DRIFT, WE WILL GO TO TAIMYR. In Leningrad, they received: “WE HAVE REACHED ORBIT. TROUBLE WITH WOLVES. AFTER THE ICE DRIFT WE WILL FIND TAMARA.
Geolcom did not know how to react: whether to send help to the rescue of mysterious Tamara.
In the History Spot’s previous publication, we talked about the fact that the brewery in Norilsk was opened almost simultaneously with the bakery.
