#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Russian Geographical Society has announced the start of accepting applications for participation in the specialized shift World of Discoveries at the all-Russian children’s center Smena. From March 25 to April 7, the winners of the competitive selection will gather on the Black sea coast to take a fascinating journey into the world of geographical sciences.
The upcoming specialized shift World of Discoveries is dedicated to the 180th anniversary of the Russian Geographical Society and is designed to help schoolchildren choose a profession in the field of geography and related sciences. The educational program includes several modules dedicated to meteorology, ecology, geology, soil science, oceanology and other disciplines, as well as entertaining geography problems.
Schoolchildren will work with geographic equipment in laboratories and in the field, participate in thematic classes, listen to lectures, watch educational films, go on trips to interesting natural sites and on excursions to cities and the main attractions of the region under the guidance of scientists and experts of the Russian Geographical Society.
The project of specialized shifts World of Discoveries has been implemented by the Russian Geographical Society and the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation since 2015. Every year, the best young geographers go to the all-Russian and international children’s centers Orlyonok, Okean, Artek and Smena.
Students of general education organizations who have demonstrated success in the study of geography and related sciences, as well as in social and creative activities, are invited to participate in the competition.
The project is implemented by the Krasnodar regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society and the RGS’s executive directorate. More information about the project can be found on the society’s youth movement website.
