#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The selection to the team from Taimyr to participate in the stage of the World Open Water Swimming Championship was held yesterday, June 8.
As a reminder, this year the X-WATERS World Championship will be held for the first time on the Putorana plateau from 13 to 19 July.
The mass swim will take place in one of the deepest and coldest freshwater reservoirs in Russia – lake Lama.
The lake is located about 120-150 kilometers east of Norilsk, it stretches 80 kilometers in length, eight in width, its depths reach 300-600 meters. In terms of area, it occupies the seventh place among the lakes of the Krasnoyarsk region and 40th – among the lakes of Russia. The water temperature there rarely rises above six degrees.
“WATERS Plateau Putorana is a special cold camp on the banks of the Lama, where swimmers can get basic training and later try themselves in cold water. An extensive lecture, sports and tourism program is provided for the participants, including trekking and photo routes in the vicinity of the Putorana plateau”, the organizers said.
The swim scheduled for July 18 at four distances at the choice of athletes: 50 and 100 meters – for swimmers without wetsuits, 1000 and 1850 meters – for participants in ‘overalls’.
The X-WATERS Plateau Putorana project is being implemented with the participation of the Norilsk Development Agency and with the support of Nornickel. The qualifying swim organized with the assistance of the X-Fit North fitness center, the Taimyr Walrus club and the Nord diving club.
