#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The hockey season beginning and the Norilsk team debut in the VHL was commented by the International Ice Hockey Federation board member, FHR Special Representative for International Affairs Pavel Bure:
“It’s great that another point has appeared on the Russia hockey map where there is a professional team. The slogan of the new club – Motherland of Ice – fits perfectly into the hockey map of Russia. Good luck to the northernmost team in the country! Moreover, Norilsk is a city with rich hockey traditions, the locals have been waiting for this event for a long time. I have no doubt that Norilsk will delight them with its results, and the stands of the wonderful Arctic Sports Palace will always be full”.
The Norilsk professional hockey team creation initiator was Vladimir Potanin, Nornickel president, the Night Hockey League amateur hockey development fund’s board of trustees head, who has been implementing projects aimed at developing and popularizing hockey in Russia for several years.
Norilsk can rightly be called the sports capital of the Arctic: the city is regularly visited by world sports stars – basketball, football, hockey, curling, chess players.
