This is not the first time that coaches from the national hockey players training program Red Machine (NHPTP KM) have come to Norilsk at the invitation of the Nornickel company. The company’s close cooperation with the Russian Hockey Federation (RHF) as an official and general partner implements one of the significant areas – a special program for the development of hockey in the regions, which includes a wide range of educational and training events for young hockey players.
Every year about 70 young hockey players take part in training camps. Federation specialists, as well as invited hockey stars and legends, will conduct training for three days on the ice and in the Arctica gym for hockey section students. During the training camp, local trainers will get a full series of teaching aids from the NHPTP Red Machine for use in their work.
This year, the training camp has begun with a meeting between Russian hockey legend Evgeniy Artyuhin and the guys from the hockey section, at which the master answered young athletes’ questions.
The curiosity of the younger generation of hockey players in Norilsk knew no bounds. Even a girl came along with the boys to an impromptu press conference with the sports star. The senior comrades couldn’t resist asking questions either.
It should be noted the theoretical training of young hockey players from Norilsk, who were not only knowledgeable about their sport, but also had excellent information about hockey clubs in Russia, the most famous players in the country, and were aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the teams.
They mostly asked questions about how the champion achieved such high results in domestic and world hockey. Young people were interested in how old Evgeniy Artyuhin started playing, what teams he played in, how many goals he scored, what stars he had to play with and against, and who nurtured the champion’s passion for hockey.

He had much to tell the youth: Evgeniy answered questions patiently and thoroughly. The only topic that the master put aside “for later” were theoretical questions, which the champion suggested considering during practical training on the ice. At this time, the champion’s colleagues, coaches and mentors of the Red Machine, conducted practical training with another group of young Norilsk hockey players.
“This is not our first time in Norilsk, now we have been working on the ice with the younger group, the guys are definitely making progress. There is progress in stick and puck handling techniques, and there is a clear desire to achieve results, even despite difficult exercises. If the guys don’t succeed the first or second time, they persistently move forward and achieve positive results”, shared coach, head of the department for implementing the national hockey player training program of the FHR Andrei Ivanov.
The first day of the training camp is aimed at technical work with students of the Norilsk hockey sections in the field of techniques for handling skates, sticks and pucks. The mentors plan to devote the next day to modeling various game situations and actions on the field, as well as team play.
“The Red Machine and I have a fairly extensive training program for children of different ages, from theory to practice. Thanks to Nornickel’s initiative, the guys receive a large amount of knowledge at the training camp, where the main thing is the extensive experience of the coaches. There are a number of practical skills in hockey that are difficult to obtain anywhere except from direct owners – my colleagues”, noted Evgeniy Artyuhin.
The program for the comprehensive development of hockey created by the FHR and Nornickel has proven itself to be an effective tool. In addition to the positive sports results for children playing hockey, the events have an important social effect for the regions, increasing the popularity of sports and a healthy lifestyle in general.
The development of children’s and youth sports in the company’s regions is a priority. Strengthened and coordinated work with sports federations leads to forming a reliable foundation for Russia’s future sporting successes, creates the basis of a strong, healthy nation and contributes to the harmonious development of the future generation.
As part of a global renovation program, the Iceberg modern indoor ice rink in Talnah was opened at the end of last year. The ice has already been tested by the Night Hockey League games and training sessions for children from local sports schools.
