#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Metropolitan Ignatius of Saratov and Volsky presented Nornickel president Vladimir Potanin with a medal for many years of charitable assistance.

Ekaterina Potanina was also awarded the medal of the Venerable Martyr Sophia, established by the Saratov Metropolis for mercy and help to others.

“With the Nornickel’s charitable help, we were able to raise our Orthodox gymnasiums and children’s centers, where our children learn music and creativity, to a decent level, we were able to provide them with equipment and carry out repairs that were necessary. Thanks to the company’s support, we can develop important activities, especially in such difficult times as now, to educate patriotic youth”, Metropolitan Ignatius of Saratov and Volsky thanked the Nornickel head for his help and support in the restoration of the cultural and educational center of the diocese.

Nornickel actively participates in the program for the Orthodox churches construction in Moscow and the regions of its production enterprises development, supports and finances social, charitable and other projects of the dioceses and metropolises of the Russian Orthodox Church.

In Saratov, where Nornickel Sputnik is located, the company helps restore and participates in financing the seminary and diocesan centers, and patronizes two children’s schools. With funds from Nornickel, classrooms and premises were re-equipped, the roofs were replaced and the facades of the Intercession Orthodox classical gymnasium named after the Holy Blessed Grand Duke Alexander Nevsky and the Hvalynsk Orthodox classical gymnasium named after the Holy Martyr Alexander Medem were repaired.

“Our family has always supported the projects of the Russian Orthodox Church and with great pleasure and enthusiasm does this on the territory of the Saratov diocese. We are glad that our efforts are primarily aimed at educational processes, at working with schools and children, with our younger generation – this is a definite feature for our family. We sponsor institutions that provide education, both secular and ecclesiastical. I’m glad that my wife supports me as a businessman who is involved in charity”, said Vladimir Potanin.

With the company’s support, a large-scale project is being carried out to restore the cultural and educational center of the Saratov diocese: a major overhaul and complete re-equipment of the building of the spiritual consistory has been carried out, and the television studio of the Saratov Metropolis, which is located on the territory of the facility, has been re-equipped.

The building of the educational center for the development of children’s and youth creativity at the Saratov Orthodox Theological Seminary has been renovated. Work on the center’s third building restoration, a cultural heritage site of regional significance, the Timofeyev Mansion, is nearing completion.

Previously, the Nornickel head was awarded medals from the Ministry of Sports for the tenth anniversary of the Olympics in Sochi.

Vladimir Potanin has repeatedly topped the list of the most charitable businessmen in Russia. Previously, the Potanin Foundation helped Siberian Federal University purchase multimedia equipment.
