The reconstruction of the airport complex and airfield infrastructure at the Norilsk airport is ongoing. The works are included in the State Comprehensive Plan for the Modernization and Expansion of the Main Transport Infrastructure until 2024. This is the final stage of reconstruction.
The specialists continue building a drainage system and sewage treatment plants, as well as a transformer substation, preparations for laying the cable in the lower part of the apron are underway in the northern air harbor now. As it was in the previous few years, the reconstruction is carried out in the conditions of the working airport.
It is worthy reminding, the large-scale Norilsk transport hub update began in 2015. This significant project was provided 7.5 billion rubles from the federal budget. Nornickel which owns the complex of buildings and structures of the airport allocated more than 5 billion. Thus, the total investment amounted to more than 12.5 billion rubles.
The reconstruction took place in several stages, the runway was completely redone. The airport accepted only small aircraft and medium-haul vessels while various sections of the runway were being repaired during the summer months of 2016-2018. The runway was not working at full length in summer months for three years, and then began to accept long-range Boeings again.
At the third and final stage, a new light-signal, meteorological and radio-technical equipment for flights was installed on the take-off; the apron cover was replaced. The repair of the Norilsk runway was completed in September 2018, and it worked without restrictions. The pilots of the first landing large airliners praised its quality. Now the full length of the strip is 2850 meters, and the total area of the civil platform is 108 thousand square meters. The airfield can accept any type of aircraft.
The final repair stage of the Norilsk airport began last year and involves the modernization of the airfield infrastructure, the builders began the construction of the airfield complex.
According to the Federal Air Transport Agency, the work should be completed in the third quarter of this year. Including the construction of treatment facilities, a patrol road, perimeter fencing with TMP (technical means of protection), the reconstruction of power supply systems and a drainage system.
